My Mother's Garden Inspired Flower Necklace
Combine beads and wire to make a bead and wire flower necklace. This wire jewelry design idea will expand your wire jewelry making skills!
Jewelry Making Inspiration
The inspiration for this piece is spring when flowers bloom to their fullest. My Mother was born in spring and we had flowering plants all over the house when I was growing up because gardening was her passion.
She loved orchids and flowers of different colors. I would often hear her talk about her flowers whenever we had visitors at home.
This piece is dedicated to my mom who celebrated her 81st birthday last spring.
Jewelry Making Techniques
I used free forms in most of the wire flowers. They are formed with a simple loop that is wrapped at the center to create the wire flowers.
The flowers where I have beads on them are made almost the same way. I simply slid the bead onto the wire and secured them by wrapping the wires at the base.
As for the intricate details at the center of the flowers. I slid in rice pearls, glass beads and Murano® beads and twirl the wire to secure it looped and wrapped around the center.
Right under the wire flowers are mother of pearl beads where I crocheted them first using 24 gauge stainless wire and then just wrapped them in the wires connecting the wire flowers and wrapped the excess wire at both end flowers.
I used ordinary wire which you can buy at the hardware store. The petals of the flowers are mother of pearl shells and the purple ones are glass, as well as the purple leaves.
Jewelry Making Experience
I started making jewelry two years ago and have no other jewelry making experience nor do I have any formal training.
I am by nature curious as to how things are put together and my imagination just worked like magic figuring it all out for me!
