Jewelry Artist Kirstin Kestner's Jewelry Making Story

1) When did you start making jewelry and why?

I was introduced to jewelry making while a teenager in Girl Scouts. First we made the knotted bracelets that most kids make. Then on a G.S. trip to an Indian reservation in Colorado, I learned to make seed bead jewelry.

Later while visiting Our Cabana in Mexico as a Senior Girl Scout, I learned to make jewelry with leather and wire wrapping from a father and his young son who made and sold their pieces on the streets.

I was fascinated by the history and stories behind the jewelry making and how beautiful of a piece one could make by hand using simple materials.

How Kirstin Kestner Beaded Jewelry Artist
Started Selling Beaded Jewelry

1) When did you start selling jewelry?

I have made jewelry just for friends and myself since my teens. I also spent 20 years working with my parents' woodcraft business where we sold at craft shows and local shops.

In my mid thirties I decided it was time to start my own business and opened Craft Treasures.

At first, it was a mix of many different crafts and some jewelry. But I soon realized that I wanted to just make jewelry, so in May of 2010, Craft Treasures became strictly Isabel Kestner Jewelry.

2) What do you enjoy most about selling jewelry?

That moment when someone sees a piece that catches their eyes and they just love it.

3) What type of jewelry customer do you sell to?

I don't aim for a particular "type" of customer. I hope there's something for everyone, from young to mature, classic, to hippie, to modern.

I do, however, aim for a price range. I want to keep the jewelry very affordable. Most pieces fall in the $15-$35 range.

4) Where you sell your jewelry?

You can find my online jewelry shop at IKJewelryParty.com. I also sell my jewelry at craft shows and home jewelry parties.

Thank you very much,
Kirstin Isabel Kestner
