Selling Jewelry in Online Sites

A great way to start selling jewelry online is to sell your jewelry at online shopping sites. Basically, an online selling site is an ecommerce shopping cart.

These sites allow you to setup a online storefront where you list your jewelry for sale to the buying public.

It is like having your own physical shopping cart located in a large shopping mall.

Each of the jewelry selling sites listed below has a distinct look and feel. And, each will attract different types of customers.

Your job is know your customer and sell your jewelry at an online jewelry selling site that matches her tastes.

Jewelry Making Terms

Sometimes the terms used to refer to the way jewelry is made are used interchangeably. Technically speaking, here are their true meanings.

  • Artisan Jewelry: Jewelry that is made entirely by hand from raw materials by a jewelry maker who is called an artisan (usually, it takes years of experience of making jewelry to be called a skilled artisan)
  • Handcrafted Jewelry: Jewelry that is usually made (or assembled) entirely or partially from ready made components, not made by the jewelry maker. The ready made components may or may not be handmade.
  • Handmade Jewelry: Jewelry where each component is made from raw materials. For example, silver begins its jewelry making life as little pellets. These pellets are then melted and made into wire or jewelry components.
  • Original Jewelry Designs: Designs conceived of by a jewelry artist, not a design seen somewhere and copied or used as inspiration for jewelry making
  • Vintage Jewelry: Jewelry that is more than 20 years old

Promote Your Own Jewelry

Online selling sites are a great avenue for selling jewelry. Start up costs can be low.

Signing up to sell your jewelry at an online jewelry selling site usually costs less than $20 (US) dollars per month. Some sites (Rubylane.com) may also charge an advertising fee.

One thing to remember though is that almost no selling site will assist you with advertising your individual storefront.

Instead, the online jewelry selling site owners promote or advertise the site as a whole.

You must promote or advertise your own jewelry and storefront.

Check the Fine Print of Online Selling Sites

Whichever online jewelry selling site you choose, be sure to check out the dos and don'ts of selling on the site before signing up to sell your jewelry.

I wish you much success selling your handcrafted jewelry!
