People love stories about handmade jewelry and beads. To interest others in reading your entry, include some details such as these:

1. What inspired you to make the bead or jewelry.

2. The meaning, place of origin of the stones or materials.

3. Tell what jewelry making techniques you used to make the design, especially what seed bead stitch. You must state what bead stitch you used.

4. What challenges you overcame to make the jewelry design.

5. How you got started making beads and/or jewelry.

6. The meaning of the bead or jewelry to a culture it might represent.

Do not make sales pitches (these types of entries will not be published). Rather, write to heighten your reader's interest.

Follow these guidelines for preparing and submitting photos of your entry.

1. Photograph your jewelry on a light colored (pastel colors, white, grey, tan, etc.) background.

If your jewelry is light in color, use a dark (except black) background. If your jewelry is dark in color use a light background.

Use things you may have on hand such as a clean sheet, pillow case, craft paper or the inside of a shopping bag. A clean, no pattern table top will do too.

2. The optimal image size is 400 pixels by 300 pixels. Other good photos sizes include 400x400, 400x500 or 400x600 pixels. Maximum width is 400 pixels.

If you need to edit or resize your picture (.jpg), use your graphics software or a Web-based resizer, such as Picnik.com.

3. You may submit up to four photos, so consider submitting photos that clarify your jewelry making instructions or show different views of your jewelry design.

4. Photos must be in focus and of the jewelry design, not pets, people or props that detract from the jewelry.

5. Photos with borders, watermarks or logos will not be accepted.
